In the case of inclement weather,
most concerts will be relocated to the Costick Center at 28600 W. 11 Mile Rd.

Make Music Detroit 2016


Make Music Detroit, World is Listening
On June 21st, 2016 , Detroit will, for the first time, join cities in 120 countries for Make Music Day, the “world’s largest global music event.
Scheduled on the longest day of the year, the inaugural Make Music Detroit will take
place at multiple venues and will feature over 70 musical performances .
All participating venues will be free of admission and open to all ages.
Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music Detroit is open to
anyone who wants to perform , learn , or teach music .
Make Music Detroit has coordinated more than a dozen sites around the city to serve as venues for the performers.
Most sites are dispersed within three walkable clusters situated within the
Cultural Center , Downtown and North End neighborhood.
Attendees are going to be able to visit
Detroit Institute of Arts,
Assemble Sound,
The Carr Center at Harmonie Park,
Urban Bean Co.,
Northern Lights Lounge,
Cass Cafe,
Third Man Records,
Jazz Cafe at Music Hall
sites along the Oakland Avenue Artist Corridor
to enjoy and experience every kind of musician young and old, amateur and professional,
of every musical persuasion
(from jazz to folk to experimental to soul to electronic).
Performances start at Noon and end at Midnight.

11 year old singer songwriter Sophia Avocado .
Make Music Detroit advocates the access to music education and performance space
to citizens of all ages and skill levels.
More than a festival, Make Music Detroit is an ongoing “movement” to highlight the vital role music and music education plays in promoting better social, academic and spiritual engagement. Furthermore, Make Music
Detroit s trives to recognize the indispensable work of local music institutions in youth development. Parents can take their children to any of the free music workshops available throughout the music making celebration.
Originated from France in 1982 a s Fête De La Musique in which the Ministry of Culture “imagined a day where free, live music would be everywhere,”
Make Music Day i s now celebrated annually on the summer solstice in o er 700 cities
worldwide , including 37 cities across the U.S.
